(A Few) Americans Await Bush Supreme Court Nomination
The list for Bush's next supreme court nominee has been narrowed down to just a few names, according to recent reports. The money's on Harriet Miers, a younger, red-headed version of the judge she would replace, Sandra Day O'Connor. Miers is leading the search for finding a replacement, which is probably why she is the favorite to be picked for the position. The Bush administration has traditionally hired people who are vastly under-qualified to lead searches for high-level positions, and when those incompetent people are unable to find a suitable person to take the position, they are chosen by Bush's staff. With a system like this why would anyone ever want to find a qualified person? Heck, if your search fails, YOU get the job! (the article I link to mentions the most well-known example of this activity, the selection of Dick Cheney as running mate)
