The Audi R-Zero Electric Fantasy Car

Audi has introduced a new concept car, and it's something a lot of people are going to be drooling over. The car is electric, it does 0-62 in 3 seconds, and it has a top speed of 286 mph. Total horsepower tops 1090. I'd like to see more videos of the car in action because those stats are hard to believe.

I'm sure the R-Zero is way too costly to ever make it to regular production, but let's hope that some of the great technology in this car will make it into new Audi's in the near-future.

The American Amphibious Car

I just found out about an American company that has started production of an amphibious car, called the Hydra Spyder. It has a convertible top and a Corvette engine.

The inventor who founded the company making the car says that it handles very well in the water, which was a problem for the Aquacars of the 1960's. He sold the prototype to a wealthy American whose name cannot be disclosed. Look for these to hit the roads, and lakes, in the next few years, although in very limited numbers.

24 Hours of LeMons

I'm sure most of you have heard of the 24 Hours at LeMans race. It pits some of the most expensive endurance cars in the world against each other for a race that lasts a full 24 hours. This is the first I've heard of the 24 Hours of LeMons, a race that pits cars that were bought and made road-worthy for $500 or less.

Each car in this race must pass a series of safety tests that include old lady mannequins and baby strollers. Then it's off to the races. The winner gets a canvas sack full of nickels, while the racer judged to be the biggest jerk will see his car demolished. Sounds like a good time! I've linked to the official website.
