Cruise denies split claim

Tom Cruise's publicist has come out and denied the rumors that he has split with fiance Katie Holmes, which I reported on earlier. The rumors were based on a story by Life & Style Weekly, which stood by the story 100% as it ran in their magazine. It was based on information from friends of the couple, who claim they are "together but not together" and are in a situation that is "unhealthy for both of them."

My guess is, the sources are friends of Katie, and they want her to break up with Tom, who is seen by many as a crazy brainwashed Scientology nut. It has been claimed that some directors are even avoiding going after Cruise for major roles, because publicity for every movie he's in becomes all about Tom Cruise, and not about the movie itself. See "War of the Worlds" for a good example of this.

Rumor: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes Break Up!

I'll believe this when it's reported on a respected news source, but tabloids are reporting that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are breaking up. They had been engaged to be married, and they announced in September that Katie was pregnant with their child. Katie has made several attempts to prove to the media that she is in fact pregnant, as her belly has had mysterious fluctuations in size since the announcement. If the pregnancy was a sham, it'll be interesting to see whether they just pretend it never happened, or come out and tell the media it was "just a joke."

Buyer Beware: Mr. and Mrs. Smith DVD Rootkit

It has just come to my attention that the German DVD of Mr. and Mrs. Smith does contain a hidden rootkit that will install itself if the disc it played on a computer. I do not know if this rootkit is also on the American version or any other foreign versions.

A rootkit is a program that is supposed to hinder piracy, but will leave the user vulnerable to hackers and other attacks. It's kind of funny that companies still think they can prevent piracy with rootkits. In fact, the threat of rootkits has led many people to pirate movies and music, which ensures that they will not have their computer system crippled with the dangerous software program.
