Filing or Joining a Class Action Lawsuit

If you are part of a group of people who have all suffered damages in some way from a single entity, you may be eligible to file a class action lawsuit. The benefits to a class action lawsuit is that a large group of people can attract more/better attorneys, and it generally requires less work from each plaintiff when compared to individual lawsuits.

Before deciding to attempt to file a class action suit you should consider how many people have the same legal standing as you. In other words, how many people will be suing the same entity for the same reason. You'll probably want to consult a lawyer before you even start this process. Not all lawyers will be prepared to take your case, but they should be able to recommend someone who is.

A lawyer who is experienced with class action lawsuits will be able to tell you how the whole process works, such as how legal fees get paid and how a settlement would be distributed. For larger cases the judge may also make rulings on these details.
