In case you haven't noticed, I haven't updated the poker site in a looong time. You should check out the new homepage, at www.damox.com. It's got lot's of good info on making and saving money, so you have more to play poker with.

I've received some inquiries about the Torpedo game I mentioned before. Torpedo is a form of 3-card stud poker. The order of hands is almost the same, except a straight now beats a flush. Play starts with an ante, let's say $1. Everyone is dealt 3 cards. Each person holds their cards out in the middle, and the dealer says "one, two, three, drop." Anyone who drops their cards has folded. Those holding their cards will turn them over to reveal who has won. The winner gets the pot, and each loser has to pay to the pot an amount equal to the pot that was just won. So, let's say 8 people are playing. Each pays $1 for the ante. 4 players end up folding. One player wins the $8, and the losers pay $8 each to the pot, so the next pot will be $24. Since there is already money in the pot, there is no ante for the next round. If only one person stayed in the hand, that person wins the pot, and everyone pays an ante the next hand. You can see how this game can get dangerous. If 4 players stay in on a hand where the pot is $24, each of the 3 losers will pay $24 to the pot, making the next pot $72. You can also replace the "one, two, three" method by using another deck of cards of the same size but different back color. Each player gets a card from the deck, and they put it face up under their 3 cards if they want to play, and face down if they fold. They obviously have to place their card under their cards without the other players seeing (under the table, etc). Try playing this sometime with your friends. Don't deal in anyone who doesn't have enough money to cover the current pot.

There are many great resources on the internet for the amateur poker player. In the coming weeks I will reveal (and possibly review) the books, videos, and software that I have used to help my poker game. By the way, I play Texas Hold 'Em (both low limit and no limit) and a crazy version of 3-card poker called Torpedo. I'll explain more on these games sometime soon.
