Negroponte Was Barred From Saying Global And Warming At The Same Time

Director of National Intelligence John Negroponte let slip a little White House secret that I'm sure the Bush administration doesn't want us to know. Apparently Negroponte was barred from saying the words "global" and "warming" in the same sentence.

Scientists have contended for years that the Bush administration has been manipulating their data to hide the fact that our biggest businesses are causing pollution that can be tied to observable global warming. That kind of evidence could be bad news for some of Bush's biggest supporters, including the oil industry. The fact that the administration would stoop so low as to censor the use of the term just shows how far they were willing to go to hide the truth.

Molly Ivins Dies

Columnist Molly Ivins, who spent the past 7 years making a living by ripping President Bush a new one, has lost her battle with breast cancer. She was first diagnosed around the same time Bush was first elected. The president truly is a carcinogen.

Bush Scores New Low in Polls, Hillary The Early Favorite

A Newsweek poll had Bush's approval rating at a new low following his State of the Union speech. Not only do most Americans not approve of the job he's doing, 58% actually want him out of the White House. 27% would prefer Richard Simmons in the White House. 4% would watch Craig Ferguson's late night talk show if it got Bush out of the White House. That's pretty harsh.

How Many Draft Deferments Did Cheney Get?

Dick Cheney sits right up there with Richard Nixon as possibly the worst American of the past 50 years. How terrible could one person be? Dick Cheney supported the war in Vietnam, a war that took place when he was in his twenties, but received a total of 5 draft deferments. No, he wasn't studying in England as a Rhodes scholar, he was nearly flunking out of Yale and then later on going to community college.

Dick Cheney has been in charge of many Americans going to war, but has never once been on the line himself, despite having done nothing to deserve such a privilege. He even knocked up his wife, Lynne, so he could apply for a hardship exemption. Soon afterwards, his career in politics started with an internship during the... Nixon administration. What a jerk!

Utah Legislators Discuss Rockstar's Bully As 'Columbine Game'

Utah politicians have never been known for actually knowing what they're talking about. I found this transcript of a discussion in which one politicians debates the president of the Utah Retail Merchants Association regarding controversial video games.

The politician repeatedly confuses Bully, the recent high school sim game from Rockstar that created a lot of debate about violence in video games prior to its release but ended up being about as violent as a Hello Kitty game, as "that Columbine game". He's confusing Bully with Super Columbine, a web-based RPG developed by one person. He even asks what Super Columbine's rating is, which shows his ignorance of the issue because Super Columbine is not a game sold at retail stores, it's just a very simple 2D role playing game that one very bored person made in their spare time.

The scary thing is that these people have the power to do thing like ban violent video games, even though they clearly have no idea what they are talking about.

Reverse Cell Phone Lookup

In my line of business, discovering secrets is put at a premium. If you've got information that somebody else doesn't have, you've got the upper hand. Finding out where anonymous information comes from can be very important. Caller ID has been used for years, but the use of cell phones has driven many of us crazy. I found this Reverse Cell Phone Lookup that can find the source of a cell phone number and who owns that number.

I know there are many people out there that have been looking for this type of service for a long time. I just hope the government doesn't step in and try to shut this type of thing down due to some bogus privacy concerns.

Will America Suffer The Same Fate As The Roman Empire?

I found a great article for you history buffs out there. It turns out there are many similarities between the Roman Empire during its decline and the America that we see today.

To sum up some of these similarities (read the article for details): increasing debt per capita, currency devaluation (I question this one, the dollar has not been devalued that much, if you put it into perspective), and a huge trade deficit (definitly a major problem). An overstretched military and poor leadership are also similarities that can be debated.

It's a good article, and worth your time.

Selling Yourself, With Free Business Cards

Are you having trouble selling yourself to potential clients? Want some free business cards? Check out that link right there, because they have free business cards, as well as business card templates and other great business card resources.

I know a lot of people who spend a lot of time and money to make their business cards just right. There are so many options out there, it can get a bit mind-boggling. I advise having one set of business cards for professional use and another for other networking and meeting people. Sometimes you just want to sell yourself, not the company you work for. I have a friend who actually meets a lot of women and gives them one of his "personal" business cards. It's got his contact information on it, and it reminds the other person that he's a successful and confident person.

North Carolina State Senator Wants Government To Review Movie Scripts Prior To Filming

A State Senator from North Carolina has heard about the controversial new Dakota Fanning flick Hounddog on the news, and he's so upset about it he wants the government to step in.

Phil "Tard" Berger, a Republican state senator from Rockingham, wants the government to review all movie scripts from films made in North Carolina prior to filming. The state gives an incentive to filmmakers to get them to film in the state. That incentive can be as much as 15% of production costs.

Berger's logic is that state taxpayers are paying for these movies to be made through this incentive. What he's completely ignorant of is the fact that the reason that incentive exists is because a films production will bring in much more revenue to the state. In other words, 40% of the films production costs might go to local businesses and the state tax pool, and the 15% incentive is essentially just a rebate on some of that money. That's why they call it an incentive. Taxpayers are not paying for these movies.

Berger fails to understand how movies are made when he comes up with some idiotic legislation like this. Should someone tell him that movie scripts are not set in stone, and will usually see dozens, if not hundreds of changes during production.

I'm always amazed at how ignorant elected officials can be. The North Carolinians who voted to give this man in the state senate should be ashamed. He does not understand basic economics, he wants to define what is obscene by his own standards, and he even admits that he his opinion of the new Dakota Fanning movie, which is only airing at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah at this time, was formed by what he read about it. I'm sure Newsmax and the Aryan Daily are his main news sources.

What's really strange about this whole story is that someone in North Carolina thinks the state is relevant to the film industry. If North Carolina drifted off into the Atlantic Ocean tomorrow, Hollywood would barely notice. They might make a movie about it, but it would probably suck.

Bush Tries Power Grab On Federal Government

President Bush quietly took control of the Federal Government last week, the result of an executive order that gives the president the power to review all regulations before they are published in the Federal Register.

The new order would allow the president to place his own agenda in regulations on public health, safety, civil rights, and the environment. Bush has continually taken a pro-business stance in those areas so expect the little guy to suffer when the new multi-billion dollar coal plant is built next door.

Rove Could Testify In Libby Trial

It has been a strange week at the Scooter Libby perjury trial. First, his defense team surprises even the most well-informed Washington insiders by showing their hand and revealing that Libby will blame the White House for the Valerie Plame leak and the attempted cover-up. Today, Karl Rove was subpoenaed in the case, meaning he could have to give up some very embarrassing information about the White House and Bush's inner circle.

Like no other presidency in this country's history, the Bush administration has tried to shield itself of any serious allegations by hiding behind the "national security curtain". They won't be able to do that in this case, and they CAN blame Bill Clinton for it. The precedent for a president and his staff being forced to testify in civil and criminal cases while the president is still in office was set during the Clinton years, when Ken Starr forced Clinton to give up embarrassing information. Clinton's lawyers tried to stop the prosecution, or at least delay it, but the justice system was not having any of it. Bush's lawyers might as well not even try in this case.

Scooter Libby is facing possible prison time for perjury in what was clearly a cover-up of Plamegate. The question now is who called for that cover-up. It's obvious that Libby did not fall on that sword on his own volition, and it seems unlikely that Dick Cheney asked one of his own men to do such a thing, so the suspicion falls back on the White House. We know Bush doesn't really call the shots, which leads us right to Karl Rove, his chief of staff. It may sound like a convoluted chain, but I've got a feeling the prosecution, led by Patrick Fitzgerald, has some very key evidence that will bring it all together. The only thing we don't know is who will fall as a result.

Some Great Fundraising Ideas

Fundraising.com is a site geared toward... you guessed it: fundraising. I think every youth in America should be involved with fundraising efforts at some point when they're young. The things I learned selling popcorn as a Boy Scout helped me in later life when I was doing sales, and then again when I was doing... well, fundraising for politicians.

Fundraising.com may or may not have the products you want to sell for your particular group or charity, but at least they have some ideas to get you going. Look in their "Fundraising Programs" section for ideas for your type of group, be it a church, a school, or a sports team.

Time Poll Has Hillary Well Ahead of Obama

Despite all the buzz and competing polls that show quite the contrary, Time has conducted a poll of potential voters and found that Hillary Clinton will win the Democratic nomination by a margin of almost 2 to 1. John McCain and Rudy Guiliani are in a much closer fight for the Republican nomination, with McCain getting the edge. McCain and Clinton are a virtual dead-heat in the actual presidential election.

Some of the other numbers from the poll show that both Obama and Guiliani have a good chance of making up ground because they have very high net favorability numbers. I still can't understand why only 14% of those polled have a negative view of Rudy Guiliani. Are they still hanging medals on him for 9/11? What exactly did he do there that no one else would have done? Does anyone really think a different mayor would have turned the city over to their terrorist overlords? He basically said "this is tragic, let's rebuild stronger and move on." I guess everyone forgot that he cheated on his wife and was in charge during a time of incredible corruption during the early rebuilding phase. Heck, NYC even hired the mob to carry away the debris. Oh well, 9/11, 9/11!

Obama Strikes Back At Fox News

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama is not going to let Fox News spread rumors about him anymore. They (and by they I mean that mean-spirited pundit, John Gibson) have been reporting that Obama was raised as a Muslim and attended a Madrassa (a school for Muslims, often associated with brainwashing by fundamentalists, like many American Christian schools).

Obama is setting the facts straight on this issue before it gets out of hand:
- He was not raised a Muslim
- He did not attend a Madrassa as a child
- He was raised by his mother and stepfather, both Christians
- He only met his biological father once before he died
- He is a current member of the United Church of Christ in Chicago

Obama then continued attacking Fox News for their irresponsible reporting and for diverting their viewers from real issues, like health care and social security reform.

Kerry Bows Out Of 2008 Presidential Race

Facing stiff competition from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, among others, 2004 presidential hopeful John Kerry has decided not to run again in '08. I think this is a great decision for Kerry, who had virtually no chance of getting the bid, and for Democrats, who have one less person trying to knock them down during the primaries. Clean primaries are a great way to launch a candidate into the White House, as seen with Bill Clinton in 1992.

What Does Barack Obama Stand For?

With the hype swirling around Barack Obama these days, I think it's about time we all step back and take a look at his political views. Don't just believe what Fox News tells you (I've heard they've been trying to make it look like he was brainwashed at an Islamic school when he was very young). Here are some of the facts:

- Voted to raise the minimum wage
- Voted against tax breaks for businesses
- Voted against a bizarre law that would let people plead self-defense if they violated a local gun ban if they used within their home
- Sponsored a law to study the "driving while black" problem
- Helped pass an overhaul of the state death penalty system (Hey Texans, you could learn a lesson from this guy)
- Voted for stem cell research
- Voted for universal health care
- Voted against school vouchers (I oppose his view on this issue, but I realize most liberals are reluctant to take money away from teachers unions)

I'll add more as the Obama campaign gains momentum.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Threatens United States

Iran has been busy this week. They've been working with North Korea on underground nuclear testing, and now they've added some new threats to Israel, the United States, and Britain to the mix.

It's hard to say exactly how serious the Iranian president is with these new threats. His country depends heavily on the industrialized world, and they are very much in trouble with their dwindling oil supply. They are the only OPEC country that is not coming close to producing as much as their quota allows, and some experts predict their supply could be halved by 2015.

That would be bad news for much of the world, as the extremist regime in power in Iran would likely use force to get out of economic trouble. Now that Iraq has been weakened, they would be a prime target. People hate it when I say this, but Iraq would be much safer now if Saddam Hussein were in power. Taking him out played right into Iran's plans if they really are losing as much of their oil supply as experts suggest.

Iran will be the most important foreign policy issue over the next 10 years, and it looks like President Bush is not the man to handle the situation. Our next president, whether his/her name is Obama, Clinton, McCain, or Perot (just kidding) needs to present a policy idea that will do more to fix the Iran situation.

Libby Destroyed Evidence; Cheney Deeply Involved - ThinkProgress

Prosecutors in the perjury case against former VP chief of staff Scooter Libby have revealed part of their hand, and it doesn't look good for Scooter or Dicky.

Scooter testified before a grand jury regarding the Joe Wilson/Valerie Plame leak, telling them that it was someone from the media who told him that Plame was a CIA agent. It has now been revealed that that is almost certainly a lie. Libby received the information from Cheney, and there is even significant evidence that Cheney actually directed Libby to leak the information to the media.

It goes even further than that. The specific motive for leaking, which was to get back at Joe Wilson's investigation of the dubious Niger/uranium connection, is actually stated right there in evidence obtained by prosecutors.

A Blog For Small Business Owners

I know many entering the private sector will end up owning their own business, and they'll need a lot of good tips along the way. I found this one site, filled with
business advice, which is a great read for those who have made the leap now own their own business.

Some of the advice on this site is really great, such as the posts about taxes and the best ways to advertise. One post I found interesting, titled Search Ads Not A Good Option for Small Businesses showed me something I didn't even think about. Small businesses will have trouble with search ads because the people who click on them are already demonstrating an ability to shop around. That means they'll often find the lowest price, which usually won't come from a small business.

No matter how skillful a person is while working in the public sector or on a campaign, there are going to be things they just never think about when they make that move into business ownership. The Incparadise news blog is just the kind of site they should have bookmarked.

Bush Poll Ratings Fall To Nixon Levels

President Bush was drinking too much alcohol and blowing too much coke to remember the Nixon administration. He's probably hearing a lot more about that president these days, as his approval numbers reach a level not seen since 1974, when Nixon faced possible criminal charges following the botched Watergate robbery.

The current president may not be a petty thug like Nixon. Nixon was sub-human, the Mike Tyson of presidents. President Bush is a much more dangerous beast. He's been able to whip Middle America into a religious frenzy, somehow connecting the bombing and shooting of dark-skinned people in the Middle East to doing the work of Jesus Christ.

That rabid Middle America is about all Bush has left these days. Conservatives are attacking the president for not being... well, conservative. Spending during the Bush administration has skyrocketed. Left between a choice of raising taxes (which voters would see impact them now) or increasing debt (which future generations will have to pay for, and can be much more destructive to the economy), Bush chose to increase debt. That's the government equivalent of just putting it on the Visa. Very intelligent.

Libertarians are hating Bush because he is slowly turning this country into George Orwell's 1984. He thinks the government can spy on everyone's actions without a warrant, because these are "special circumstances". Thomas Jefferson is both spinning and puking in his grave right now.

Liberals have always been against Bush, and he's made no effort to appease them in any way, because he never had to. Now he's lost power in Congress, making him a lame duck president that nobody wants to listen to anymore. All that we ask is that he not destroy the country in the next two years, after which time he will be replaced by someone who hopefully is capable enough to fix the mistakes of the past eight years.

Andy Griffith vs. The Patriot Act

This is a great video to show all those Americans who think George W. Bush's ideals are the same as those of their heroes from the "golden age", which is the term used by elderly white Americans to describe the 1950's. It turns out that Andy Griffith sides with the current Democrat position on the Patriot Act, while George W. Bush once again plays the role of the impetuous Obie. "Yeah but... yeah but...". No, Mr. President. Our current situation does not call for exceptions to the rights we have stood and fought for over the past two centuries. Oh well, enough of this intro. Watch the one minute clip and think about how Mr. Bush has pulled the wool over so many eyes.

Barack Obama Starts Victory Campaign

Barack Obama has formed an exploratory committee. I'm not sure exactly what that means, but I think they measure the drapes in the White House and make sure they match the carpets he'll be bringing with him from home.

The Obama movement is about as strong as any unofficial presidential campaign two years before the next election ever. There are plenty of worries that the campaign could peak too early, but Obama's honesty is something Republicans are increasingly worried about overcoming.

The GOP frontrunners include Rudy Guiliani, who cheated on his wife and had other tabloid worthy problems while in office; and John McCain, who fought a noble campaign against George W. Bush in 2000 but has since flip-flopped on most of his positions, even speaking alongside a bigot like Jerry Falwell, a man whose views he once deemed "dangerous".

Obama has admitted to such things as marijuana and cocaine use, and he didn't try to claim he never inhaled, a move that cost Bill Clinton some credibility in 1992. George W. Bush, on the other hand, has lost all credibility on the issue by just saying he's not going to talk about the past. His arrest record speaks for him: multiple DWI arrests in the 1970's (a time when you REALLY had to be drunk to get a DWI), and at least one cocaine arrest that his lawyers have tried to erase from the record.

Obama does not have the arrest record to match President Bush - likely because he really was an curious college student and not an Animal House pledge, like that beast of a man currently occupying the White House. Obama even admitted that he enjoyed smoking the sticky icky, a real sign of honesty that will win him votes with young voters who are prone to distrusting politicians.

Bush Caught Lying to Troops Being Sent To Iraq

President Bush was just trying to comfort some troops being sent to the hellhole that is Iraq, but what he told them is really a microcosm of the Bush administration.

While talking to troops at Ft. Benning, in Georgia, Bush said that the escalation plan is supported by both the Iraqi government and his own generals. Reports released earlier this week show that this assertion is clearly not the case. It seems the escalation plans come from Bush's team of advisors, and them alone. I realize what the president is doing, because it's one of the oldest tricks in the political playbook: make it seem like someone else came up with the ideas that you are putting into action. If they plan succeeds, take full credit. If it fails, blame the people who you claimed came up with the idea.

It's sad that the young soldiers in Georgia, some of whom will never come home, are being lied to by the man who is sending them to Iraq. Painting this rosy picture of the situation, with the Iraqi government and U.S. generals working in unison to suppress a few "bad guys" on the streets of Baghdad, only makes it worse for these troops when they land on the ground and find that the country is in a free-for-all civil war, with no defineable allies or enemies.

Antiwar GOP Rep. Ron Paul Running for President!

Ron Paul is a very rare breed. The Republican Congressman has stood against the Iraq war, even when the rest of his party was gung-ho for it. Chances are his party won't be backing his run for the presidency either, but he's throwing his hat in the ring anyway. Today, he announced that he will try to win the GOP ticket for president in 2008.

Throughout his political career, Ron Paul has always stood by his libertarian ideals, even when it goes against his own party. Although this campaign seems doomed from the start due to lack of big money support, I think the GOP should be honored to have such a fine man trying for their ticket.

Dressing Right For The Job

If you're in politics, having the right attire is a must. Even aides to politicians have to wear a dress shirt and tie, if not a full suit. Having a good selection of ties is a must, because it is really the only part of a man's wardrobe that will stand out enough to be noticed, unless you happened to spill wine all over your white dress shirt.

The above site has a large selection of ties, including extra long ties and bow ties, which really require a certain personality, but happen to be very popular in many political circles.

I know men hate words like accesorize, but in my business it's important to remember the little things, especially at big events like a fundraiser. Cufflinks are a must, and don't forget about the tie clip. Pocket squares are also important at some events.

I make it my goal to never get photographed wearing the same tie in the same month. If the photos from the Christmas party show you wearing the same tie as the photos from the New Year's Eve party, people are going to start wondering if you're having financial trouble.

Despite all the jokes on sitcoms, ties will always make a great gift for anyone who has to wear them all the time, for the reasons I stated above. Using the site I link to above, you can save money on a variety of designer label ties as well as tie racks and gift boxes. Cufflinks and tie clips are also available at deeply discounted prices.

A Republican With The Right Idea: Sununu Attacks FCC Broadcast Flag

It's no secret that the FCC is in the pockets of the media industry. The industry has lobbied the FCC (which is not a legislative branch of government, by the way), trying to get them to regulate electronics makers whose products could be used to copy media.

The FCC does not have the authority to force electronics makers to make their products in a certain way, but since when did the FCC follow the rules? Senator John Sununu, (R-NH) is going to make sure they do. He is fighting against the broadcast flag, which is an embedded signal that would prevent some media from being recorded. Of course, it only works if the recording device can recognize the signal and has the instructions hard-wired into it to not record anything with this signal. The FCC, working on behalf of the media industry, wants our recording devices to have this "feature" built-in.

John Sununu has introduced a bill that will stomp out the broadcast flag and rein in the FCC. Don't let anyone tell you I'm in the pockets of the Democratic machine, because I'm supporting a Republican on this issue. Not that I can find any Democrats who are opposing the bill.
Senator to FCC: Don't even think about a broadcast flag

Biden To Bush: Stand Down, Mr. President!

Senator Joe Biden, chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has officially warned the president of the United States that he will trigger a "constitutional confrontation" should U.S. troops enter Iran. The president does not have the authority to wage war in countries without approval from Congress.

The Constitution is very clear on matters such as this. It may be news to Bush, but the Constitution is explicit to prevent the "times are different now" mentality that has ruled the Bush presidency. When the Dems took control of Congress earlier this month, they were saying that impeaching President Bush was NOT on their agenda. Biden is now making it clear that their position will change as soon as Bush allows troops to cross the line into Iran without approval.

When combined with the signing statement fiasco, Bush could face an all-out assault on Constitutional grounds.

Latest White House Leak: Bush - Abramoff Photo

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
There it is, the picture everyone has been looking for. It's well-known that the White House has taken great lengths to cover up any connection between Bush and Jack Abramoff. Internal memos have leaked indicating that the Bush team made a huge effort to gather any photos of the two together and destroy them. Insiders have indicated that there likely dozens of meetings, a probably dozens of photos to go along with them. The picture above is the first one to make it out to the public. It was taken in December 2003.

Surprise, Surprise, Rich Benefit Most From Bush Tax Cuts

The Congressional Budget Office, a non-partisan committee, has done a study on Bush's tax cuts. To no one's surprise, those earning more than $1 million saw the biggest drop in their federal tax rates.

It's important to note that we're talking about the rate here, not overall tax bill. We would expect the rich to pay more in overall taxes, because 3rd grade math tells us that 35% of $1,000,000 is more than 35% of $25,000. Bush is actually lowering the rate that rich people have to pay on their taxes, which leads to a larger tax levy for the middle and lower classes.

It's easy for most people to see why increasing the tax rate for the rich works much better than Bush's plan. An increase of 1% in the rate that billionaires have to pay in taxes will not harm the billionaires enough so that they will even notice in terms of "way-of-life" changes. Yet that extra 1% may be enough to cover 50% of the tax bill for people earning $20,000 or less. In other words, a small, barely noticeable increase in the rate for a few people will take a huge burden off the shoulders of many people.

This daily economics lesson is over. For homework, think about why "tax cuts" is an overly broad word that can be used in very bad ways by very bad politicians.

Tony Blair Will Not Match U.S. Troop Surge

The increase of troops in Iraq proposed by President Bush will not be matched by our closest ally, Great Britain. Prime Minister Tony Blair has said the country will not match the troop surge, showing that he is not Dick Cheney and Karl Rove's puppet, for once. The "Bush plan" will increase U.S. troops on the ground in Iraq by 20,000 in hopes of putting down the insurgency and restoring order in a country that has not had order since the 2003 U.S. invasion.

How Does Dubai Fit Into the Modern Middle East?

With current problems in the Middle East, it seems that the United States will never be able to gain a truly friendly foothold in the region. Even Saudi Arabia, our longtime ally, has demonstrated that their interest in the United States ends when we stop buying their oil. So what countries in the Middle East will take a true interest in the U.S. beyond our massive consumption of oil? Dubai could be the answer.

When people think of Dubai, they think of modern buildings and very creative real estate ventures. The Palm and The World are two man-made island chains made for the richest buyers. That makes Dubai very desirable to American moguls, who might look at the country for a business opportunity as well as a nice place to live. Unlike most other countries in the Middle East, Dubai gets only 6% of its total revenue from oil. By avoiding this reliance on one commodity, they've created a country far more stable than any other in the region.

By demonstrating that a country can be more successful by welcoming the west and not exploiting its interest in oil, Dubai has become a model of what we should want to see in that region in the future.

Bush Calls Hussein Trial 'Fair'

Let me get one thing clear: I detest Saddam Hussein. He was a disgusting human being and a tyrant. I cheered with everyone else when he was finally captured by US troops. That said, even I have to admit that Saddam Hussein did not receive a fair trial.

The Saddam trial was a sham, in violation of many international laws and agreements, intended to appease the Iraqi people who are trying to build a peaceful country, along with the Americans who continually question why we are in Iraq (like me). In the end, the trial will have accomplished neither, and it will put another blemish on our handling of international affairs.

Saddam was denied access to a lawyer during his first year in custody. During the trial, three of the lawyers on his defense team were assassinated. Witnesses on his behalf were beaten and received death threats. After his conviction, an appeals court was little more than a quick hearing conducted by the same people who convicted him. The entire trial and appeal was done while Saddam was in US custody, yet the punishment was carried out by Iraq. The legal system used was also Iraq's.

From a legal standpoint, nothing made sense about this trial. The evidence against him for this particular case was actually rather weak, and probably not enough to receive a death penalty if it were under US law. It is against the Geneva Conventions to hand over custody of a prisoner of war to an adversary of that prisoner. Some US officials have claimed that the Iraq government is not Saddam's adversary, because he was once the president of the country. We can't make that claim if we also claim that the old regime is gone and the new government is helping our fight against the old regime. By definition, that makes the new government an adversary.

There were other serious charges against Saddam Hussein that likely would have led to him receiving the death penalty, eventually. Instead, we used a kangaroo court to get a quick verdict and punishment. The outcome may satisfy us, but we can't exactly call it "fair", as President Bush did this week, with a straight face.
