Software Can Be a Huge Expense For a Business, But You Can Save Thousands With My Advice

Business level software can cost tens of thousands of dollars, even for some small businesses. In order to make the smartest decision for your business, you need to answer the following:

  • What type of software do I need?
  • Are there an software programs that can perform 2 or more of the tasks I need?
  • I've found the software I'm most likely to purchase, now what are some competing software packages, and why are they on the chopping block?
  • Are there any free software downloads that can perform any of the tasks?
  • Can I get a discount for making large software purchases from one distributer?

Many businesses use an Office Suite program, and a majority of those businesses use Microsoft Office. Many people are not aware that there is even an alternative Office Suite. Open Office is a free suite that is compatible with most Microsoft Suite products. While some businesses do not have the option of switching due to contractual obligations or other reasons, many should at least be considering making the switch. Consider whether this option is right for your business.

Most businesses also build their own websites, either to sell their product or just to promote what they have to offer. For website development there are many options. Microsoft makes a program called Frontpage. I have used this program, and I was not very happy with it. I found it to be difficult to use and not compatible with the things I was trying to do. Macromedia also makes a pretty sleek web development package that includes a page editor and some pretty nifty server software. It's expensive though, but you'll probably only need one package, because chances are not every computer terminal will need to be set up to edit your website.
