Mets Get Santana for a Handful of Bums

The New York Mets have won the Johan Santana sweepstakes, trading Carlos Gomez, Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra, and Kevin Mulvey to the Minnesota Twins for the former Cy Young award-winning pitcher.

The Twins could have received Phil Hughes from the Yankees (plus minor league prospects) or Jacoby Ellsbury or Jon Lester from the Red Sox (plus minor league prospects), but instead decided to wait it out and take whatever garbage the Mets put on the table.

This trade is bad for everyone involved. The Twins get garbage for their ace pitcher. The Mets get a pitcher who has probably hit his peak and will likely flounder under the New York spotlight just like Mike Hampton. Johan Santana will see his private life picked apart as his career spirals downward.

Student Arrested For Selling Anti-Isiah T-Shirts

A SUNY Geneseo student was arrested last Wednesday night for "intent to sell" outside Madison Square Garden. He was not selling any illegal drug or counterfeit Rolex watches, but rather a bright orange t-shirt that read, "Don't hate the player or the game... Hate the coach." A small photo of New York Knicks coach Isiah Thomas is framed in the middle of the t-shirt design.

Knicks fans have been calling for the firing of Isiah Thomas since the beginning of the season, and many long before that. Thomas has failed as the Knicks coach despite a record payroll for his roster. In fact, Thomas has failed at nearly every venture since retiring from the game as a player in the 1990's. Perhaps he should take a business management seminar with Magic Johnson.

Clemens' To Testify Before Congress, Explain Arse Shots

Congress is calling for New York Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens to testify before them and explain the circumstances surrounding the allegations of his steroid use. The best excuse the Rocket has come up with so far is that former trainer Brian McNamee injected him in the buttocks with a concoction of vitamin B12 and licocaine, a painkiller. The painkiller is a localized one that works similar to novacaine, so it's unclear why Clemens would be injecting it into his buttocks. Injecting vitamin B12 is also a practice that has been found to be about as effective as taking a supplement, so there's really no reason to inject it.

Roger Clemens will be under oath on January 16, marking the first time he will be forced by law to tell the truth about his possible use of steroids or HGH. Until then, he can tell the press whatever he wants to save his tarnished career.

Michael Vick Indicted in Virginia Dog Fighting Investigation

Falcons QB Michael Vick has been indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for violating laws against competitive dogfighting. He faces multiple felony charges, leaving his future in the NFL in doubt.

Just last month, the legal "experts" at ESPN.com said that Vick would not likely be indicted after an investigation into alleged dogfighting at a house he owned. It turns out the U.S. justice system has much more common sense than the staff of ESPN.com, as a grand jury found that Michael Vick probably was involved in the dogfighting, as he had links to dogfighting organizations on his website, dogfighting pits in his home, fighting dogs in cages in his home, and dogfighting equipment in his home. Oh yeah, there were also dozens of people who alleged that Vick attended dogfights, using dogs trained on his property, and also bet on those fights.

My hat goes off to ESPN.com for being so mind-numbingly dumb with their reporting of this investigation, an apparent attempt to make their boy Michael Vick look good in the media.

Mariners manager Hargrove resigns

For reasons that are not yet clear, Mariner manager Mike Hargrove has decided to resign despite his team's recent hot streak. The Mariners have won seven straight games, their longest winning streak in 4 years. Hargrove's only comment was that his "passion has begun to fade." This is very odd, and I can only hope that there is nothing wrong with Hargrove's health or his family.
