Apple To Launch 8GB and 10GB Nano MP3 Players

Apple will introduce some improvements to the Nano line this summer, with storage capacity increased from 2 and 4Gb to 8 and 10gb. At 10Gb, the larger Nano will be able to hold the entire music collection of the average mp3 downloader. I know my collection, which for the sake of my credibility and freedom I will say was legally downloaded via iTunes, is about 7GB and growing. The main reason I have not bought a Nano is because I do not wish to only include half of my collection on the device.

Microsoft Facing Lawsuit From Lucent Technologies

Production of the Microsoft XBox 360 is in jeopardy as Lucent Technologies has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against the computer giant. Legal experts who have reviewed the case seem to agree that Microsoft will likely lose a court battle over the patent and will be best off settling out of court, which would likely cost them hundreds of millions of dollars.

Lucent knows how important the Xbox 360 console is to Microsoft's long-term business strategy, and they also know that a piece of their technology is in that system without their permission. That gives them a lot of leverage. The technology, which is essentially a built-in MPEG-2 decoder, is an integral part of the current system. Taking the technology out would make future versions of the console much less functional than the version that is being sold now.

This legal battle is setting up a lot like the recent RIM/Blackberry court case, which was settled for a very large sum. Patent lawyers and technology experts have concluded that Lucent's case against Microsoft is actually much stronger than the one against Blackberry.

I do not own stock in any of the companies in this article, but if I were an investor I would definately consider Lucent a strong buy for tomorrow and Microsoft a definate hold/sell.

Sony PSP UMD Movie Discs May Get Canned

While the Sony PSP has been a hit with everyone who has played a game on it, the UMD movies that Sony also sells for the device have been a dud. Reports are circulating that Sony is about to stop releasing any more movies on the format, because nobody wants to pay full DVD prices for a movie that only plays on a device with a screen just a couple inches wide. Duh, I could have told them that 3 years ago.

Apple Officially Supporting Windows Installation

Following last month's contest to see who could get Windows to boot on a Mac first, Apple has now decided to officially support the practice with a public Beta program to allow users to dual boot Windows and OS X on an Apple computer. This should also lead to the development of software, hardware, and firmware that can fix any bugs there might be between Windows and Apple computers.

This is great news for Mac fanatics, who for years have had to emulate Windows in order to use certain software programs that were not available for any Mac OS. Although some would just avoid using these programs, others had to use certain software for school classes, and had no other choice but to emulate Windows, which is buggier and slower than regular Windows on a PC.

15,000 Layer Photoshop Picture

Click on the link below for one amazing Photoshop. The image is 100% artificial, with 15,000 layers used to make the various elements. The flattened image is 1.7 gigabytes, which goes to show how much detail was used to make this very complex scene.
