<--- Click here to go back to Internet Home Don't Let a Virus or Spyware Take Your Computer HostageAnyone who has owned a computer
for more than 3 years has experienced it. All of a sudden your computer
starts running slow. It may start doing strange things, like restarting
on its own and not booting Windows properly. You've got a virus. Ok, so
maybe you Mac users haven't experienced much of this phenomenon. Everyone
else knows that dreadful feeling. You've got to do something to save your
computer, and you've got to do it fast. New
Powerbooks! Free RAM, Free Printer & Accessories!* The first thing you should try to do is load up some anti-virus software. Also, don't forget to disconnect your internet cable from the infected computer, to prevent the virus from spreading. If the anti-virus doesn't work, write down your computers symptoms and research your problem using a different computer. Write down any error codes you see, because they will probably be able to point out the problem. Chances are you have a newer virus, because older viruses tend to be irradicated and updates to anti-virus software prevents them from spreading. There will probably be a lot of information about newer viruses, because you are probably not the only one affected. There are many software options for your antivirus needs. I've found that McAfee, Panda, and PC-cillin are all great programs. I've heard that Norton works alright now, but I had problems with it a few years ago. It seemed to have problems working on Windows XP. It was a major headache, and I was happy to get rid of it. They may have the problem fixed now, I don't know. Panda
Antivirus Platinum: Kills more than 63,000 viruses. Dead. There are lots of cheap or free Spyware software programs out there. I suggest researching all of them on Google. If none of these software programs fix your computer problems you may have to go to a professional. If your computer is under warranty you may be able to get tech support and possibly replacement parts if that is the problem. Having a professional fix your problem will probably cost between $100 and $400. If your computer is older than 4 years I would recommend buying a new computer, which will probably be about the same price as a repair.
